Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 Announced
On a day where many were hoping for a new Pokémon game, Nintendo announced two. Game Freak co-founder and Pokémon director Junichi Masuda announced today on the Japanese TV show Pokémon Smash that the newest games in the long-running Pokémon series would be Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, both to be released on the Nintendo DS.
Masuda had mentioned earlier in the week to expect a special announcement on new games on Pokémon Smash today, and many fans were excited for the announcement of a Pokémon Gray Version. However, no one expected this, with there never having been a remake with two games before. This marks the first time that there will be four games from the same Pokémon region ever being released on the same platform.
The games both appear to feature Kyurem as the cover art, though with a twist: they are mixes of Kyurem with both Reshiram and Zekrom. It will be very interesting to see how these new Kyurem forms, if they are Kyurem forms at all, will affect the competitive battling community. It may finally make Kyurem viable in OU, or even make it broken and sent to Ubers.
Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 will be released in Japan in June. There are currently no international release dates set; however, a U.S. release has been confirmed.
More information will be reported as it is revealed.
UPDATE: The two Pokémon on the cover are indeed new Kyurem forms. According to Junichi Masuda via his Twitter account, they are known simply as Black Kyurem and White Kyurem.
